Tips on How to “Clean Up” Your Thoughts

When your body is full of toxins, your body processes slower and has to work harder.

The same is true with your computer.  If it gets a virus or too congested, it slows down and does unpredictable things.

The same thing goes for toxic thoughts, only it’s your life that slows down and gets unpredictable.

Toxic thoughts create toxic habits and outcomes, and the real irony here is that it happens without you being aware that it’s happening.  It’s so subtle that you just think it’s the way you are or the way your life is.  There is another way.

How do you know you have toxins in your thought system?  Ask yourself this – am I living a life I love. 

If you are, great.  If you aren’t, your life will be full of stress which means you have toxic thoughts.  There is no such thing as a stressful event or circumstance.  There are only stressful thoughts. 

Two people can be faced with the same event or circumstance and one may perceive it as stressful, and the other may perceive it as fun.   For example – when faced with moving, if you think it will be difficult or stressful, it will be.  If you think it will flow smoothly and be fun, it will.  One person gets stressed out in traffic, another is grateful for the time alone in the car.   Your stress is caused by the story you tell yourself about the event and you.

Toxic thoughts create havoc in your body.  Holding on to anger, resentment, resistance, envy, jealousy, never being enough, self-criticism, depression, and anxiety all cause stress hormones in your body.  Over time, your body will break down.  With enough time, your relationships will break down. 

When your computer gets an upgrade, it usually runs better, faster, and is capable of more.  What do you think an upgrade of your thoughts would do for you, your body, your relationships, your health, your career, your level of abundance and joy in life?

Three Tips to Clean Up Your Thoughts
  1. Notice thoughts you have that make you feel bad.  For example, when in a group of people you start feeling “less than”.  Identify the thought that made you feel that way, i.e. my hair never looks as good as theirs.  Then change that thought right in that moment to a thought that would make you feel  good, i.e.- I bet they all wish they had hair like mine.
  2. Every morning get up, look in the mirror, and tell yourself all the things you wish someone else would say to you – Hey, gorgeous!  I look beautiful today.  I am amazing.  I have a huge heart.  I am so smart.  Whatever you long to hear from others, say it to yourself every morning and evening while looking into your own eyes in the mirror.  Top it off with “I am enough.”
  3. Start each day with a Gratitude Rampage, 5 minutes of I am so grateful for …. In my life, and name all the things you can think of that you are grateful for and how those things contribute to your life.  Feel the gratitude.  The feeling of gratitude opens more abundance in all areas of your life.

Distress or Chronic Stress
