How Your Dissatisfaction Affects Your Overall WellBeing

What if you were told that if you don’t change your life, you will die, would you be one of the 10% of those who make lasting change? Or would you be one to “try” to change?

Greater than 50% of Americans feel deeply dissatisfied with their jobs. One Gallop poll reported 85% of workers worldwide admitted to hating their jobs.

40% of Americans are not truly happy in their relationship according to a study from the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago.

If you are experiencing dissatisfaction in one or more areas of your life (your job or career, your relationships, your health and vitality, the amount of free time you have, and money freedom you have), it may be time to make some changes and here’s why.

Chronic disease affects over 50% of the US population, more than anywhere in the world. The amount of chronic stress you allow into your life, over time, weakens your immune system, plays havoc with your hormones and nervous system, and can contribute to chronic medical conditions.

Dissatisfaction either drives you to change or contributes to your stress.

While many things contribute to stress in our body – nutrition, toxins, hydration, physical activity, what I believe is the most overlooked stressor is your beliefs about yourself and how life is or should be, and your thoughts, which contribute to how you experience what happens in your life.

For example, we all have those core limiting beliefs from childhood that drive us to create certain results in our lives. If your core (but untrue) belief is that you are unlovable, when you are an adult, you will continue finding or creating circumstances to prove you are unlovable, like your husband forgets to call you one night when he is out of town and you get your feelings hurt and your imagination goes crazy assuming he is cheating.  When he gets home you give him the cold shoulder, and he has no clue what is going on.

This is an ingrained pattern that will continue until you change it.  And YES! You can change it!  It’s not “just the way you are”.

The key is awareness, the desire to accept responsibility for your happiness, and taking steps to change that belief, because it is untrue. You are just running an old tape.

I don’t for a minute believe that you don’t change because you want to die, and you certainly desire the outcome that change would bring…a better relationship, more meaningful work, more money, more free time, more energy…  but what many haven’t realized is that change comes from within.

True and lasting change comes from thinking new thoughts, shifting your limiting and untrue “below the surface” beliefs, which in turn change the way you interpret things, how you feel, and the actions you take. This is what creates what you do want in your life!

You cannot create new results with the same patterns of thinking and beliefs.

Before you can change you must acknowledge that you are truly unhappy and are ready for change.

Understand that no circumstance outside yourself can cause you to be unhappy.

Then with awareness of the limiting beliefs and ingrained patterns of thinking, support in making the shifts and making them lasting, and consistency over time, you will have new skills and insights that you can apply to your life the rest of your life.

Once you’ve truly made shifts, the change is within you and you will see that your results will change more easily. You will have become a new person. Our body parts totally regenerate every so often, so why thoughts and beliefs are set in stone? They are not!

BOTTOM LINE:  Your dissatisfaction leads to negative emotions which are indicators that you are not living your life true to yourself. It’s there to let you know you are out of balance. Chronic negative emotions lead to chronic stress, which contributes to fatigue and chronic health issues.

Rather than focus on what you are dissatisfied with, ask yourself, “What would I love instead?”

Start focusing on that!

Living a life you absolutely love is not wishful thinking. It’s necessary for your health and wellbeing… and possible for you.

Distress or Chronic Stress

Distress or chronic stress is uncontrollable, prolonged, or overwhelming stress. Once stress becomes distress, the body manages to survive though not always to thrive. For example, when faced with periods of chronic stress, the body’s immune system function is lowered, and the digestive, excretory, and reproductive systems no longer function the way they should. In a state of distress, the cells of the immune system (and other body systems) are unable to respond normally and produce levels of inflammation which increase the risk of further health issues.

Homeostasis

Homeostasis refers to your body’s ability to regulate itself and maintain a comparatively stable internal environment despite external and internal conditions and events.

Your body is designed to be in a state of homeostasis, where all the systems within are functioning optimally.

Stressor

Stressor is anything that is perceived by the body as challenging, threatening or demanding.

Health Story

In the context of My Wellbeing Compass, your “Health Story” represents the combination of your dis-eases, conditions, symptoms and the history that binds them together. It is multi-layered and multi-dimensional. Unearthing and resolving the root causes at the core of your Health Story is the only way to truly rewrite this Story.

Natural Self-repair Mechanisms

The body is made up of intelligent, living cells that are dynamically connected. They communicate and just know what to do and when to do it in any given situation. They grow, replicate, repair, and age. Every 90 days, the body has a new bloodstream; every year, it manufactures billions of new cells; colon cells refresh every 4 days; the skin is entirely regenerated every 2-3 weeks; white blood cells regenerate in about 1 year; the liver renews itself at least once every 2 years; and the skeleton replaces its cells entirely every 10 years.

You are an incredibly complex, interactive, and dynamic living organism that is well-equipped with self-repair mechanisms that can fight infections, eliminate toxins, fix damaged DNA, destroy cancer cells, and even slow down aging.

This natural self-healing ability (also referred to as cellular intelligence or body’s innate intelligence) explains spontaneous remissions from seemingly “incurable” diseases.
